The core research agenda asks how uneven demographic change has widened inequality between African countries, how fertility transitions deepen inequality among youth within countries, and which programmes can best bridge current gaps in youth human capital.
This agenda connects demographic change to inequality at two levels at once: between African countries and among young people within them. It is the broadest statement of why PICHNET keeps returning to transition as a development question.
It also explains why the site links research so closely to programs. The argument is not only diagnostic; it asks which interventions can actually narrow current gaps in youth human capital.
